Recapitulation - The fundamental practice for clearing our energetic entanglements.

My Story…

My early days of reading Carlos Casteneda and other books on Toltec Shamanism were more of an excitable romance of entering other worlds through dreaming and engaging in acts of power to enter heightened states. I think, like most, when embarking on the Toltec Path, Recapitulating one’s life through a dedicated regular breathwork practice seemed a bit arduous and monotonous. The more outlandish and far-reaching Toltec practices could take me, the more compelled I came to consume any books related to the Toltec path.

For some reason, like many, the Recapitulation practice is something that a lot of people interested in this particular lineage of Shamanic practice, somehow resist, or initially, put it aside from all the other more perceptual doorways that one can experience through Toltec practice.

Recapitulation is by far the most fundamental and important practice of all as it builds your energy body and strengthens your all-encompassing being to make the shift in perception and stabilises you once you have enter new states of awareness.

Our energy historically becomes entangled with the fibres of life which restrict our flow and freedom to move into new space - so we can create at ‘will’. When we clear these fibres of our past experiences, we release the tension and entanglement that’s caught in our energetic system, thus freeing us of any attachments so we can step fully into freedom of the self.

This is why learning Recapituation is a pre-requisite to all other Toltec 2-3 day experiences with ‘The Way’. We always re-visit this practice as a cornerstone of Toltecquity, to keep building our energy body for the invigorating work we embark on. In an ideal world, you will have your own practice, one that feels right to you, that you can self-lead without instruction. This leads to your own personal sense of empowerment.

After many months of putting it off, I decided to dedicate a period of time each day to do an hour of ‘recap’. I made a mental note of the sort of thing I felt that would replay in my mind, like recurring dreams or intrusive thoughts that would brew up and cause me to feel anxious. I would light a candle, turn off the TV and hold these thoughts in my mind’s eye. Breathing in the Recapitulation sequence I swept the memories away, and in turn, my attachment to them dissolved into just the faintest idea of something in the far distance! Again, I would return sweeping my island of the tonal, as they call it in Toltecquity and through this ancient and most profound breathing system, I could feel my personal history being absorbed into infinity.

At first, the benefits of Recapitulation were hard to distinguish. But after a few days, there was a noticeable sense of just how clear my mind had become and how I sensed a strengthened sense of being. Noticing how my awareness had more placidity, I was able to move my awareness with ease and grace.

If I was to sum up Recapitulation, I would say never underestimate it. Out of all the Shamanic and spiritual practices out there, it’s the one that rebuilds and makes you energetically cohesive and what’s more… can take you beyond the limits of ordinary perception.

Recommended Reading: The Toltec Path of Recapitulation by Victor Victor Sanchez, but remember that this is an embodied practice and goes beyond the intellect, the most effective way to experience Recapitulation is to experience it first-hand for yourself.

The benefits of this practice goes beyond words, something happens deep within our energetic body and psyche through a naturally dissolving. The intensity of our past experiences opens us up to life with fresh enthusiasm and gives us the available energy to the vast and infinite fields of perception and awareness. Thus, we get to experience much more of life and the many quantum avenues of reality, become more awareness, gain knowledge and perspective from deep within us, we feel more complete and whole and ultimately, we have much more energy and feel free to flow and go with life….

The Roots of Recapitulation…

Recapitulation is the most effective and profound technique in the Toltec system to release these constraints from our past, is an ancient practice where we use the breath to sweep the past from or physical body and release it through our non-physical being - the energetic body.

The Toltec culture existed between the seventh and twelfth century, before the Aztec civilisation and ran parallel to the Mayan cultures. The strong hold of the Toltec’s was in central Mexico and they pilgrimed to particular sacred sites, such as Tula, as places such as these where considered to have a particular energy to support the Recapitulation technique. Ancient statues placed at these sites known as the ‘Chacmool’s’ in the recapitulation stance of the Tonal and natural positions, also show us how old the origin of this practice is.

The Indigenous Toltecs spread out and created micro-communities who now are known as the Wirrarika people of today are still living by the ancient traditions and practices keeping and the Toltec lineage alive.

There have been many accounts of the Toltec Teachings and the different linages, plus many books written on the subject. But in respect and honour of the indigenous Wirrarika people who still keep alive and embody this ancient knowledge by living in alignment with nature and the natural world, means that when we practice these powerful techniques, we are somehow going back to the roots and tapping into the original art of Recapitulation and this alchemical breathwork that transforms your life.

Recapitulation Testimonials…

“I have found the recapitulation technique an invaluable tool to help let go of unhelpful emotions and memories that have kept me trapped in repetitive cycles of old pain.

It’s such a simple technique but so powerful and a helpful tool for moving from a place of trauma and dis-ease into more love and inner peace. Caroline is a wonderful teacher and guide with a lot of wisdom to share, she is so grounded and her presence reassuring. I enjoyed the workshop immensely and felt it to be very authentic and aligned with integrity.”

- Charlotte

The recapitulation workshop was extremely potent and led to immediate, noticeable shifts in the awareness of my habitual patterns and behaviours.

The workshop itself was a delicate balance of ‘ease‘ and ‘work’. With the work being an essential component as it is what allowed me to shift and grow. We finished the session with the recapitulation breathwork itself; after which, as well as feeling the shift myself, others in the group immediately commented on a noticeable physical shift in my appearance.”
